My three friends and I had a totally overwhelming experience at Ranmangli recently. The fields all around, the forests that enveloped us from different sides, the sighting and chirping of various birds, jungle walks, the Gond folk dance by village children, the star gazing experience night after night, sitting around the fire and chatting for hours...everything felt like we were in a world that was not a part of our usual chaotic lives. Hospitality was amazing, including the piping hot meals served with love. With a national park so close by, we also got a chance to go for jungle safari. And it was great to see how the local populace was being empowered by the Foundation. All in all, it was perfect break for tired body and souls, and each of us would love to return to refresh ourselves.

Skill Development for Communities

Forest conservation efforts alone by authorities, without the local participation, could be a waste of effort. For local communities to participate in forest conservation they need to strengthen their organizational capacity. For which they need to develop skills and competence in certain technical aspects of forestry and conservation.

For capacity building, the local community needs range from basic education to training in mapping, driving safaris, forest guides, english speaking, use of geographic information systems. The training needs to be identified based on the avenues for employment.

Ran Mangli Foundation is working towards developing competence among the local forest-neighboring communities. In Ran Mangli’s research and observation there are avenues for employment however the deficiencies are in the skills. Therefore Ran Mangi Foundation partners with the Maharashtra Forest Department for the capacity building through training.
